Our Sacramental Journey

At St Francis of Assisi School we aim to ensure that our Baptised children can complete their journey to become full members of the Catholic Church. Children are provided with support within school and the Parish to make the sacraments of Reconciliation, the Eucharist and Confirmation.

 Sacrament of Reconciliation

Year 3

This Sacrament was completed by our Year 3 Baptised pupils. To begin with, there was a presentation at Church, where Father  blessed all of the children at the start of their journey. Children were then prepared to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation through 3 sessions that took place at School.  Following these sessions, the children completed the Sacrament by confessing their sins to God. They were then restored to the innocence of their Baptism. The next Sacrament in their journey is to receive Jesus in their First Holy Communion (the Eucharist.)

First Reconciliation (Year 3 Children who are already Baptised)

Attend Holy Mass regularly.
For your kind information, catechesis for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation will take place at S Anthony of Padua Catholic Church:

Saturday, 2 March 2024, 12:00 – 13:30
Saturday, 9 March 2024, 12:00 – 13:30
These sessions will follow an introductory and registration session in S Anthony’s church at 18:00 – 18:30 on Monday, 5 February 2024.

Sacrament of the Eucharist – First Holy Communion

Year 4

In order to prepare for the Sacrament of the Eucharist the children follow the programme ‘Heart Speaks to Heart’. This is completed over a series of sessions, with Father Whitwell. Parents will support them on every step of the journey. Once the children have completed this scheme, they will receive Communion for the first time at Sunday mass on an agreed date with Father. It is important that children attend all three school sessions and attend Mass regularly.

First Holy Communion (Year 4>)

Attend Holy Mass regularly.
Introductory Session in S Anthony of Padua Catholic Church:

Monday, 15 April 2024, 18:00 – 18:30
Three further sessions:
Saturday, 27 April 2024, 12:00 – 13:30
Saturday 4 May 2024, 12:00 – 13:30
Saturday, 11 May 2024, 12:00 – 13:30
Once the catechesis is successfully completed for receiving Holy Communion for the first time, the formation continues at Holy Mass, the most important of all preparations! After a suitable time, a child or group of children (no more than five), can then make their first Holy Communion in the Parish – such is the path of faithfulness. (05.01.24)

Sacrament of Confirmation in 2024

Year 6

Children will begin this journey in Year 6. They will attend a series of preparation classes at Church which once again, will be supported by parents, before taking the Sacrament in a Diocese wide Mass led by the Bishop. The children pledge to remain committed to their Catholic faith and do their upmost to be loyal servants for God.

Holy Confirmations (Year 6>)
