Our PE is a positive and engaging experience, promoting lifelong wellbeing for all.

At St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School, we want all children to enjoy being physically active to support both their physical and mental wellbeing so we offer a wide range of opportunities to learn actively not only in PE but throughout the wider curriculum and also at playtimes, lunchtimes and after school.

We offer high-quality PE education and in Autumn Term 2021 we began using a new PE curriculum from ‘Beyond the Physical’, a specialist PE consultancy. We have received staff training and have ongoing support from Beyond the Physical consultant, Steve Waide.

The children are enjoying the ‘mastery’ approach offered by this curriculum where they can really get to grips with learning PE skills in a fun and meaningful way at their own level which means they all succeed.

Lunchtimes and Playtimes

In Summer Term 2022, Key Stage 2 children applied for roles in our new Lunchtime Team and children appointed had Active Schools Training from a PE coach and are using their new skills to support children in the playground to have more fun and active playtimes.

New equipment has been purchased for children to enjoy at Lunchtimes and in this academic year we have more exciting plans to transform our outdoor areas and lunchtimes.

The Lunchtime Staff also received Active Schools+ Lunchtime Training to upskill them and enable them to support children in being more physically active.

At an INSET Day in February, the staff created a PE Vision Statement which is at the top of this page. Mrs Moreton, our PE Leader in school shared it with children at a special PE Focus Assembly and children are learning more about what it means for them in their individual classes.

We are looking forward to even bigger plans this academic year, to develop our playground and field areas extensively through partnership with OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) who will bring the children’s very own playground design to reality.
